Setting Up Your Lifestyle

Ahhh…you’ve been visualizing the kind of person you want to be and she happens to wear a size eight and looks fantastic in a sleeveless top. She’s sexy, motivated, positive, and in control of her life. This lady has it all going on because she knows how to prioritize her health and fitness so that she will be around for her other priorities in life: family and friends.

Yesterday we talked about journaling because it is the first step to becoming this woman. What comes after journaling, though? Setting up your lifestyle of success. Here are my keys to having an environment that is supportive of your dreams and goals.

1. Your journal is always up to date and accurate. It’s filled with your goals and your daily records of fitness and food. Without a blueprint of what you do in terms of exercise and eating you can’t make progress.

2. Meal planning. Each week you should take 30 minutes to build a menu. Tomorrow I will blog about how to easily build a menu each week.

3. Clean out your house. Your house is your sanctuary where you must feel in control and safe of all your triggers. For you single girls or those of you with husbands like mine who are supportive of everything I do, throw out the garbage foods you cannot control yourself with and replace with all those good, healthy, delicious foods that empower you and make you beautiful.

For those of you with familis and significant others who are not so supportive, DO NOT use them as an excuse. It might be tougher on you, but find creative ways to avoid these foods.

Also think about this, if it’s junk they shouldn’t have it either. Do you have to be rude and obnoxious about it? No. Simply start throwing out the junky crap your family shouldn’t eat and start replacing it with healthier choices. It won’t happen overnight, but it can happen over time and you will be doing you and your family a big favor by avoiding foods that are bad for your health.

4. Find a friend who can share this lifestyle with you. Look around and you probably have someone in your life who is looking to make a similar change. The both of you do it together because people who have someone dependent on them for their success are more likely to succeed themselves.

5. Schedule your exercise. Don’t make excuses here, either. Some of my clients are the busiest people I have ever encountered and they find ways to get their exercise in everyday. They get creative, squeeze in quick sessions when they have to, and they rarely compromise their goals because of time constraints.

I bet if I told you that the TV and computer wouldn’t work until your body has done 30 minutes of exercise for the day that you would suddenly have all the time in world to get in a workout. Make that deal with yourself each day. No TV, books, newspaper, radio, or computer until you have done 30 minutes of activity. When it’s done you can plop down on the couch and watch all the mindless TV you want.

6. Find exercise you like. The best exercise is the type you will do. Find things you like and do them. Forget about what will help you lose weight the fastest. Focus on what you will do for a lifetime and you’ll get to your goal.

The bottom line is that you need to have an established lifestyle that supports your goals. If you want to lose fat but you are trying to walk at 5:00 a.m. when you are an evening person who likes kickboxing, then switch it. Don’t exericse in the morning because someone said it was better for you. If you love cookies and cakes but know you can’t eat those things and lose weight…throw them away! Better in the trash than on your hips. If you are on the road a lot during the day, get a cooler (see my igloo article) and pack it with foods for you to eat. No, you don’t have to live off McDonalds!

The key to being that sexy lady in the first paragraph is building a lifestyle she can thrive in. Now, go out there and start living like you have never lived before and enjoy it!
