There is evidence that shows splitting your workout into two different sessions during the day is better for your performance and fat burning capabilities. This is true, but it is also true that finding motivation to do one workout a day is hard enough, but do it twice? Come on!
Luckily for me I like to workout so motivation is abundant. Finding time to do it is the hard part. With a growing online business, a playful four year old who thinks Mommy has to do everything these days, and a sweet husband to take care of, it seems a little overwhelming to squeeze in two workouts every day between my other commitments. I’m willing to try it, though, because I’m just curious what the difference will be in my hunger, repair processes, and motivation. At what point do you just say, “Enough. My workout may not be in line with the latest research as to how to optimize the workout and fat burning, but it fits my lifestyle.”
Fitting your lifestyle is what most people forget these days. No one ever said you had to lose your weight right now or it doesn’t count. This society of instant gratification has made it nearly impossible to appreciate a simple half-pound loss. It takes A LOT of work to lose a half-pound of fat, but to most people the scale might as well have slapped them in the face.
I would suggest that each person define the lifestyle they want to lead before beginning any effort to lose weight and exercise. Where do you see yourself as a thin person? Are you exercising like a fiend day in and day out, or are you moderately active? Whatever you see yourself doing as a thin person is what you need to do now. You can take it up a notch or two, but don’t over-committ yourself to a lifestyle you have little intention of ever leading.
This takes me back to two-a-day splits. You might think I’m crazy. You might think I have serious goals and do whatever it takes to get them. You might also think, “thank God she’s doing it instead of me.” Just know that when I started my journey I dreamed of being an athlete. I knew in my heart that I was designed to be active and fit regardless of how I had lived my life. I think I have acheived most of my goals and so now I start two-a-days to simply experiment with what will make me as fit as possible.
I’m happy with that. Let’s just hope my body likes it, too.
