Are You Working Towards a Goal?

I was going to take all kinds of credit for this statement and then decided I shall not steal and give credit where credit is due. My own trainer today said something to me during my back workout that was so on target that I wanted to run from the gym and get here to blog about it.

Your EFFORT must match your GOALS!

Wow! What a powerful statement. When he busted that line out to me in the middle of my set, I totally cranked it up a notch. Suddenly I worked as hard as I want to look. Are you doing the same?

When you workout you have to keep this in mind. It's easy to show up at the gym and workout. It's easy to hop on the tready and start walking on an incline, watching the TV, and holding onto the top of the machine. You get off sweaty and feeling like a real champ because you worked out. But did you do all you can? When you got off the treadmill were you patting yourself on the back for showing up or where you scanning the room to find a trash can because you worked so hard you are little sick to your stomach. Are you searching your bag for your cell phone to make a call on the way out or are you trying to catch your breath and avoiding eye contact with everyone because you know they are thinking if she works any harder she's going to need help out of here.

When I workout I like to leave the gym feeling super confident that I did a workout that is inching me closer and closer to my goals; not just treadding water and hoping that by being in the gym I'm naturally going to lose some weight.

The same goes for your eating, too. When you eat are you putting in the effort to plan your meals, get in your fruits and veggies, and load up on healthy stuff? Or, do you just eat by the seat of your pants, hope that it all works out by the end of the day, and fill your day with junk like Kashi Bars, crackers, snack packs, lattes, and jello. You want to look good and perform good you'll eat from the basics:

  • Quality lean proteins
  • Healthy dairy
  • Fresh fruits and veggies
  • Complex whole grains
  • Good fats

If your day is comprised mostly of things in a plastic wraper or a cardboard box then you must not be focused on your goals.

We are starting the hardest month of the entire year. Now is the time to get those goals squarely in your mind and for you to match your efforts to those goals. Let's make everyday count!

Journal Alerts: I know you ladies love to read these, but I'm officially moving them to my forums. Mainly because the majority of you are in weight loss mode. I'm not and my menu and workouts will be reflecting it. I don't want to confuse anyone so see my website for info on how to eat to lose. :)

You know, I've read this line of thinking in previous posts and it's always irked me: why can't I just go to the gym and give it 75% and that's good enough? Then I saw the line above about treading water, and I realized, um, that's YOU Heather! Treading water. I'm getting 75% back and am frustrated -- I guess it's not that hard to figure out. I've got a stubborn streak a mile long; some things take me longer to accept than others. I'm starting to realize you gals know what you're talking about. :)
