How Do I Begin?

1. I threw out everything in the house that might be tempting. My husband was completely on board with it. He said if he wanted something that would tempt me he would go out and eat it. Throwing out the junk made it possible to stay on board with the program during the hard times. If I needed to eat at least I wasn't going to binge on ice cream. Plenty of times I turned to grapes and such because it was all that I had. Also, I didn't use the excuse that my family won't eat that stuff. Well, if it's making you fat and unhealthy they shouldn't be eating either! Besides, I stocked my fridge full of fresh fruits, veggies, lean meats, whole grains, low fat dairy...why would you NOT feed that to the people you love most in the world???

 

2. Start exercising. Find something you like and commit to it. People who exercise typically eat better only because they don't want to derail the effort of the exercise. You'll shape up faster, feel better, have more stamina for your kids, and you'll be doing something for your future health. I committed to a race and used that as a springboard to getting the exercise going.

 

3. Keep water with you at all times!!! You'll drink more if it's with you.

4. Go to the store 2-3 times a week if you can't do a weekly meal plan. It can be easier to design your menus and find stuff you like when you can constantly tweak and try things. If you can, try menu planning and here is a link to how I do it.

5. Find a buddy to do it with, if you can. If not, then just do it yourself.

6. Visit the Weight Watchers message boards every day for support. That's what they are there for. You can always find someone on the boards who can answer questions and give you encouragement when you need it.
